45 minute meditation journal

Instead of sitting as I usually do, I sat with the opposite leg on the outside in Burmese position. It turns out that leg is not as used to the discomfort as my left leg, after 30 minutes I had to move my leg briefly and then returned it to position. Even then I almost had to move it again before the meditation was over. It was again difficult to stay with my breath and I'm left wondering am I doing this right? Is what I'm doing effective in any way? Am I actually meditating? I would really love the guidance of a teacher...
